Giving Thanks - November 2024

2024-11-16 (Last Update: Tue, 26 Nov 2024) Derek D 1 General

Dear Friends of Compassion Kitchens,

The rice, lentils, and vegetables have continued to flow these past months and our 13 partnership kitchens remain open! Every dollar spent and every minute of effort is dedicated entirely to benefiting these children. This mission and work is of utmost importance and it can only continue with the help of many people coming together with pure loving intention. ‘Compassion’ is the key and we promise to do our best to continue cultivating true compassion and spread joy and kindness to those in most need.

Thank you so much to all of you for making this possible every month through your donations, time, and energy.

November Updates / News

NEWS PAGE: We officially have a new page on our website that will be used for news, blog posts, and updates such as these.

KITCHEN VISITS: This month, 3 of our founding members have had the opportunity to visit Colombia and many of our partnership kitchens. Travis was able to bring toys and joy to the "House of Mercy" and Adriana and Derek were able to visit Cali and our kitchens there! The children's smiles and the mother’s words speak only of gratitude and remind us of the importance and impact of this work.

CALI FOOD BANK: After the visits to Cali these past weeks we have been able to achieve two more enrollments for kitchens in the Cali Food Bank Program. In the past year we have worked with the Cali Food Bank Program who offer food items at extremely low prices. Our Purchases from them have helped provide three of our partnership kitchens with ten times the amount of needed food (per dollar) than if we’d made those purchases from a regular store. We are hoping to be able to begin our food bank transfers for Comedor Parquectio De La Ceiba and Transformando Futuro in the coming weeks.

Spread the Word:

We are currently behind on our fundraising goals and are hoping to raise the needed money in the next weeks and month to be able to continue our purchases for December and January. We believe there are many people that would love to help a cause like this and have the financial capability, but that do not know about the work we are doing. If any of you can spread the word and tell local business, religious groups, friends, or family of this work and the altruistic nature of it, that would be greatly appreciated. Because we have no employees and all of our remote volunteers work full-time jobs it makes it difficult for us to reach out and spend the time grant writing, and fundraising as other organizations do.

The impact each dollar makes is unheard of in the non-profit sector and we are working for a cause that is undoubtedly of top importance to anyone who wishes to be of benefit to the world and compassionate to others. Our model of how we help provide meals to the children by supporting our partner kitchens is working beautifully. The only thing we need now is to get the word out, and for this we ask your help! This can be done by sharing our website, social media pages, (Facebook or Instagram), Zeffy fundraising page, or even by forwarding these email-updates to friends that are interested in learning more.

Gratitude

It can be easy to find gratitude for things that are going the way we want them to, but It is even more powerful to find gratitude in the struggles and difficulties that we all face. Every kitchen we are supporting is located in areas with extreme violence, poverty, and daily events that no human should face. We also are currently in a difficult situation as a foundation because of our lack of funding and commitment to try our best to continue with the needed food supplies. With all this being said we choose to give thanks.

Thanks for the reminders that the world doesn't work the way we want it to, it is in surrender and acceptance that we find lasting peace.

Thanks for the struggles we face that force us to find practices that strengthen us, and that teach us that it is in the struggles that we actually grow and learn best.

Thanks for the kids that still smile, laugh, and play in situations that many of us couldn't even imagine living in, and for their teachings to us of how blessed we are to have food everyday.

Thank you to all the people in the world who give selflessly day in and day out in order to benefit others, who practice generosity and giving, and are examples of what it means to be a truly caring human.

Thank you all!
